Free Community Activities
for Kids
Ongoing activities are subject to change. It's always a good idea to call and verify.

Discovery Museum
Young Discoverers Free Sessions. Tuesdays from 2-3 and on Wednesdays from 11-12 Bring your preschooler to the Discovery Museum for an hour of thematic activities, stories, crafts, songs and dance.

Family Art Days
Second Saturdays from 2-4 at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, 636 F Street, Eureka. FREE art fun and activities for all ages. For more information call 442-0278, ext. 201.

Big Noisy Machines
Third Saturdays starting at 10:30 there is a "Steam Up" of historic logging equipment and FREE train rides at Fort Humboldt State Park in Eureka, May through September. 445-6567

North Coast Parents (NCP) is a not-for-profit group that provides support for parents of young children in Humboldt County. We've been offering our members a variety of safe, fun, almost always FREE activities every month for over 15 years!

Fieldtrips and Special Activities:

We visit parks, playgrounds, nature trails, museums and local industries. Recent fieldtrips have included the 5th street fire station, a Los Bagels bagel bakery, the Mad River fish hatchery and the HSU marine laboratory.

NCP has several activities that are annual events such as our Valentine’s Day Celebration, Halloween Party, Holiday party, and a Fundraising Raffle.

Often these are FREE activities, but there will be times when a nominal charge will apply to each child (for example, pottery day at Fire Arts Center was $2.00 per child).

Gymnastics:

Most members of NCP will agree that the trips to Flips For Kids and Jump Start Gymnastics are an excellent value and a great way to let our children get some exercise! This activity is all free play with instructor and parent supervision, and currently has an additional fee of $3 per child or $5.00 for two or more children.

Museum:

FREE Members-Only days at the Discovery Museum.

Babysitting Co-op

Looking for a night out or time to do errands without children in tow? Join the Baby Sitting Co-op, where points are exchanged instead of money.

HealthSport Swimming

Current and prospective members can participate in all family swim times at the Arcata HealthSport for a low price: $5/person 12 + over, $3/person 6-12, Ages 0-5 FREE! Need to register on NCP sign-in sheet. Kids should be with own parent/legal guardian; should an additional child come, they must already have a waiver on file. Current NCP members are also eligible for all youth activities at the youth member rate such as Toddler Sport for 3-5 year olds....AND...Can attend Kids Korner Activity Time which includes Music, Story, Art and Movement/Yoga Times.

Meetings and Classes:

General Meetings are held monthly, and all members are encouraged to attend.

NCP is one of the only organizations in Humboldt County that offers parenting classes. These are offered periodically.

Playgroups:

We are constantly creating new small play groups that meet regularly. See our newsletter for more details.
